Pumpkin Festival

We went to the Milford Pumpkin Festival. We've never been before and it was a beautiful sunny day. It was pretty fun. Cassidy is so young that I don't think she cares what we do and thankfully she's such a happy baby that she just goes with the flow. I put her in the Baby Bjorn and she seems to enjoy people watching. She never cried even though she'd barely napped prior to getting there. We saw the pumpkin catapult, which was a little disappointing because they were catapulting them into a pond. I was expecting to see smashed pumpkins! We don't have many photos because I was carrying Cassidy and I'm usually the photo taker. Still a really nice day outdoors.

Just relaxing

With my husband away I spent most of this weekend alone. Well, alone with a 6 month old and a dog but that’s pretty much alone from a conversation stand point. I don’t mind being alone like that. It was nice. I took dog and baby for long chilly morning walks, caught up on some favorite tv shows, cooked,  put up Halloween decorations and played on the floor with my daughter.

I attempted to take a nice 6 month photo of Cassidy. In retrospect I wish I’d tried harder on Friday but I just tried once and she wasn’t smiling much and gave up. Saturday I dressed her in an outfit I thought would be good for pictures – white longsleeve onsie and jeans. Started snapping and… nope, don’t like her in a white shirt (she’s pretty pasty). So we play, walk, nap and I put a zip up sweater over the onesie. Start snapping and…  she’s not smiling great. The sweater is a little big on her and I’ve always had that sweater in mind for some outdoor photos (Christmas card maybe) so we play, go to the store, nap. When she wakes I put a jumper style dress  over her onesie and take off the jeans. Okay – this is a cute outfit. I even get a great picture of her sitting. Except one arm is a big blur L

On Sunday I didn’t even try to take photos. I was determined that I was going to somehow miraculously learn to edit the photo to get rid of the blurred arm and add in a normal arm? Now it’s Monday and I realize – I don’t have those skills. Or anything even close to those skills. So now I’ll be spending next weekend trying to get a nice 6 month photo too!  Wish me happy but still baby luck!

Dinner guest this evening

My husband is away for the weekend. So I invited a good friend over for dinner tonight. Prior to marriage and baby I did this often and invited the girls over for dinner & gossip. I haven’t done it in a long time and since I still have a baby to take care off I thought I’d start small. Yesterday I baked the most important part of any meal – dessert J.  I used apples from our apple picking last week and made Apple Brown Betty from a recipe I’ve always wanted to try. It smelled really good. I love the smell of apples baking.

Today I got some Tortilla soup ready in the crock pot. That way whenever the baby is in bed, dinner is ready and I don’t have to do anything except serve. It’s a new recipe so hopefully it tastes good. I think you can’t go wrong with lots of veggies. It's starting to cook now and it smells yummy.
My friend is bringing the wine. I'm sure we have lots to catch up on and at the end of a fun, slightly drunken evening we'll say that we have to do it again, more frequently...   and we really should.

Apple Picking fun!

Every year I look forward to our annual apple picking & corn maze day.  I’ve been going with my sister’s family for years to a place near her house. Weeks ago we chose our day (with my nephew’s football schedules it wasn’t easy). I thought about what Cassidy should wear (her hot pink Adidas outfit) and what a nice fall day it would be. Well, it was still a nice day but it was 85 degrees!  So our outfit plans were thrown out! Tank tops & shorts it was. The apples were already half-baked on the trees. We finished the corn maze in record time. 20 Minutes. Seriously we set a new record for the place for this year! It was a nice day!
My hubby took some great photos of my nephews

Girlfriends

I wish I had friends.  Of course I have friends but… I don’t feel like I have a BEST friend anymore. I’m close with one of my cousins and my sister but they both have older kids so we’re at different stages right now. I have no friends who have a baby which stinks not only for me but for Cassidy who will be an only child and it would be nice if I had a close friend with a child around her age so that she could see another child regularly. And my best friend who I used to be joined at the hip with… well, she married a controlling jerk about four years ago and drifted apart doesn’t even begin to describe what’s happened to us. I miss her. I miss her so damn much. And I want her back but I don’t see that happening until she divorces him and I’m not sure when or if that will happen. So do I give up? Do I try to find another BFF?  That’s not an easy thing to do.  I guess I’ll just tell her how much I miss her.

I’m probably also a little down because our vacation is over and we’re back to work. Towards the end of our vacation we went to Boston for a day and it was a lovely day. I’m itching to plan another vacation!

First half of vacation over.

Last weekend we left on vacation. Just up to my parents place on the lake. We spent Sunday hanging out with them and then they went home. We went for lots of walks. My parents found this old stroller with a Free sign so they took it & cleaned it up. It made it nice that we didn't have to bring ours (it wouldn't fit in the car anyway). It totally looked like a baby hospital bed. Cassidy didn't care though.

We went to the outlets and bought stuff for Cassidy. A Snowsuit for winter, the pink hat she's wearing in the picture above and a cute baby gap outfit.  We went for a small hike that ended at waterfalls. It was nice and about all my back could handle with the baby in the Baby Bjorn. She's getting too heavy for that and just about exceeds the height limit! A nice man took our picture. We have too few photos of all of us!

We had a nice time but we're happy to be home. We're going to try to do fun things at least two of our four remaining days. It's nice to spend time all together.

Another weekend PLUS vacation

ahhh my friday again. Today Cassidy and I met a good friend for lunch. Auntie Michelle is a tall girl as I strongly suspect Cassidy will be. We will rely heavily on Auntie Michelle's advice on buying clothes over the years as I am a shorty and have no experience with pants that are too short.

We're off on vacation Sunday morning. My parents have a cottage near a lake so we're going there to relax for a few days. It's nice to vacation where we can bring Jake. I'm hoping to take lots of photos of the family.

My baby girl is 5 months old today

To celebrate we went to Maine for the day. Okay, our going to Maine had nothing to do with her being 5 months old and a lot to do with us trying to do at least one thing during a holiday weekend. So after sitting in lots of traffic, getting a flat tire, we finally made it to a restaurant for lunch. Where my little girl sat in a restaurant high chair! Propped up sweaters & blankets!
She looked so cute. She is so easy going. We took a long walk by the ocean

People were even surfing.

Yesterday we walked Jake in the morning - which we do every weekend. The weather was nice.

After our walk we made more baby food. Acorn Squash! Yum!

I love weekends

Today is a friday, the start of all my weekends. This weekend happens to also be Labor day weekend so I get an extra day! Yippee! AND my husband Bill took today off too so lots of family togetherness this weekend. I started my day by giving my baby Cassidy rice cereal for the first time.
I don't think it went that well. Very little cereal actually got into her. Then I took her and the dog for a walk. we do it most weekends - either 2.5 or 3 miles. It was nice and she napped. When we got home I made homeade baby food - green beans.
My family thinks I'm crazy to make homeade baby food. I only cook for my husband and I once a week (usually one weekend night and it's Lean Cuisines the rest of the time!). But I want the baby to have nice healthy food that I know what went into it. So I'm trying making my own. So far I have peaches and plums made. today was my first veggie and I think it came out great!

After I puree it I put it in ice cube trays for nice 1oz servings. Then I'll freezer bag them and just defrost as necesary. Easy!
